Barima Osei Hwedie II, Chief of Ejura Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, has deposed one of his subchiefs, Nana Obri Yeboah.
The subchief was detooled for allegedly assisting some nomadic herders in suspected armed robberies in the area.
On Sunday, November 27, 2022, the chief of Miminaso No. 2 was deposed following the murder of a police constable in the community by some suspected armed robbers.
Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II organised as public forum, where some residents accused nomadic herdsmen of being behind the recent crimes recorded in the area.
According to Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II, he told the chief not to allow the herders to settle in the area.
He insisted that his decision to dethrone the chief was motivated by the chief’s refusal to open up to the traditional council about the presence of the herdsmen in the community.
He appointed the Assembly Member for the area, the Zongo chief, and the Chief Imam as caretakers until a substantive chief is appointed.
