Michael Ebo Amoah, a political analyst and lecturer, claims that some chiefs in the Volta Region want former President John Dramani Mahama to pick former Speaker of Parliament Doe Ajaho as his running mate.
According to the lecturer, the chiefs met with the former president recently when he launched his campaign in the region.
The chiefs’ argument, he said, was based on the fact that the region had not been given any key responsibilities following the death of former President John Rawlings.
He was responding to a question about whether it would be politically wise for the former president to maintain the 2020 running mate Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyamang.
According to him, he has gathered that the former president is likely to drop the former education minister for Awuah Darko, ”but it doesn’t look like it. One thing affecting the woman is the appointment of Ato Forson as the Minority Leader. Some people are worried because the two are all from the Central Region”.
“What I know is that Prof. Opoku-Agyemanf is still Mahama’s choice, which means that if she is still strong by next year, she will be Mahama’s running mate. When it comes to the running mate, however, people lobby. Some chiefs are pushing for Doe Ajaho to be the running mate. When he went to the Volta Region to launch his campaign, some of the chiefs met with him and asked him to choose someone from the region, specifically Doe Ajaho.”
